Description
Prestel’s editors have selected what they consider to be the 100 most important works of art produced in the 20th century.
The works (mainly paintings and drawings, but including some sculptures and installations) are arranged chronologically.
Each of the 100 works is shown on one full page in colour. The major part of the page facing each illustration is devoted to:
A concise description and background information on the work.
A brief discussion of the role it played in the development of modern art.
One or two comparative pictures to place the work in context with the rest of the artist’s oeuvre.
The critique is often written by one of the many internationally respected authors contributing to this project.
