Description
During the 1960’s and early 1970’s, Southern Africa hosted the Springbok Seri of sports and saloon car racing. International stars and the latest in factory machinery made the trip southwards to an annual series of endurance races with Kyalami’s Rand Daily Mail Nine-Hour at the start, but including events in Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg, Welcom, Bulawayo and Lourenco Marques. The success of this series reflected the strength of South Africa’s motor industry and depth of its driving talent, also epitomised by its domestic Formula One and highly – competitive saloon car championships
