Thomas Moore (28 May 1779 – 25 February 1852) was an Irish poet, singer, songwriter, and entertainer, now best remembered for the lyrics of The Minstrel Boy and The Last Rose of Summer. He was responsible, with John Murray, for burning Lord Byron’s memoirs after his death. In his lifetime he was often referred to as Anacreon Moore, after the Greek lyric poet.
This book is bound in blue morocco with blind rules front and rear, raised bands with five compartments and gilt titling and decoration to the spine. There are some minor rubs to the head of the spine and bumping to the extremities. Thee end papers are of watered silk and there is a handsome book plate of a previous owner () to the free end paper. There are some fox spots to the prelims and to the last page otherwise the stock is tight and bright. Gilt page edges all round. A nice copy of a scarce 1842 new edition. Amazing condition for 178 years old
